Classics Die Hard / Los clásicos nunca mueren

Classics die hard, that is common knowledge. Or at least that was what I was reminded of this afternoon, whilst killing time between World Cup matches on Ultra Record's YouTube account. So what better to kick-start July with some good old summer vibes, many of which have fallen in disregard as opposed to David Guetta's marketing machine and its recent collaborations with the US hip hop elite. A few are a bit old, yes, but who doesn't enjoy some good memories springing back to mind? From Eric Prydz's gymnastics video to some terrace mixes, they are all to be enjoyed by the sea (or the pool), with the cocktail of your choice (personally, I'm in for a gin and tonic). There's even some Ibiza in it, courtesy of Pete Tong (remember he has a Wonderland residence in Eden club, in San Antonio). Oh, and of course at the end of the post there's a bonus from Café del Mar :) Pity I'll be stuck in an office all summer. Enjoy them for me!

Los clásicos nunca mueren, eso es sabiduría universal. O por lo menos eso es lo que me he recordado esta tarde mientras mataba el tiempo entre partidos del Mundial en la cuenta de You Tube de la discográfica Ultra Records. Así que, qué mejor que empezar julio con unos buenos clásicos veraniegos, muchos de ellos que han pasado desapercibidos en pro de la máquina del márketing de David Guetta y sus últimas colaboraciones con el mundo del hip hop de EEUU. Algunos tienen años, lo sé, pero ¿A quién no le gusta recrearse escuchándolos y recordando buenos momentos? Desde el video clip gimnástico de Eric Prydz hasta algunos temas de terraza ibicencos, todos ellos han de ser disfrutados a orillas del mar (o de la piscina), con un buen cócktail (yo personalmente me quedo con una ginebra con tónica). Hay hasta unas cuantas imágenes de Ibiza, cortesía de Pete Tong (recordad que tiene residencia con su fiesta Wonderland en Edén, en San Antonio). Ah, y al final de la entrada tenéis un bonus desde el Café del Mar :) Una pena que vaya a estar todo el verano recluido en una oficina. ¡Disfrutadlos por mí!

Earth's Secrets 5/ Los secretos de la Tierra 5

I know it might seem a bit out of place given that we are already officially in summer time (and, just in case you didn't notice there's good old Madrid with its 35ºC boiling hot June afternoons to remind you) but today I read in one of these travel supplements you find in any major newspaper about the world's most beautiful mountain. And no, it's not in the Himalayas but in the Peruvian Andes. It's called Alpamayo and its North face is, aesthetically at least, the most beautiful and stunning in our dear planet Earth- or that's what a survey carried out by a German magazine amongst mountaineers and photographers found out in the 1960s. The photograph is from Leigh Ortenburger and it's breathtaking to say the least. The views from up there are surely to die for.

So, there you go another best kept secret with a bit of chill to cool down this dense and awfully hot afternoon before dusk. After then, it's party all night long of course!

Sé que puede sonar un poco fuera de lugar visto que estamos oficialmente en el verano (y para los que no os hayáis enterado, ahí están las tórridas tardes madrileñas a la solana, con sus treinta y cinco grados para recordaróslo), pero hoy he leído en uno de esos suplementos de viajes que encuentras en cualquier periódico importante un reportaje sobre la montaña más bonita del mundo. Y no, no está en el Himalaya sino en los Andes peruanos. Se llama Alpamayo y su cara norte, estéticamente al menos, es la más bonita e impresionante de nuestro querido planeta Tierra- o al menos eso es lo que una encuesta de una revista alemana entre montañeros y fotógrafos averiguó en los años sesenta. La foto es del alemán Leogh Ortenburger y, a decir verdad, quita el hipo. Las vistas desde allí arriba tienen que ser espectaculares.

Asi que ahí tenéis otro secreto de la Tierra y algo de fresquito para paliar la solana mesetaria antes de que anochezca. Una vez que el sol haya bajado, empezará la fiesta.
