Lost in the Pyrenees / Perdido en el Pirineo

The last time I visited this valley in the Spanish Pyrenees this resort was still under construction and even though there was yet much to be completed, the setting and original buildings nonetheless gave way to very high expectations. Expectations that have not been let down. Selected as Best Spa for 2009 in Wallpaper*'s Magazine 2009 Awards, Panticosa's Resort "Termas de Tiberio" Spa is well worth a visit. The project, promoted by the owner of one of Spain's most renowned construction companies, brought in front-line architects such as Rafael Moneo who refurbished the original Gran Hotel and build a new one adjacent to it, Álvaro Siza who was in charge of the design of a new high-performance sporting facility and Belén Moneo (Rafael's daughter) who designed the spa. Being the latter the most impressive construction, it's award is well-deserved: the pictures speak for themselves.

La última vez que visité el valle de Panticosa en el pirineo aragonés, este resort seguía en construcción. Y aunque aún quedaba mucho por hacer, la situación y los edificios originales (que iban a ser restaurados) daban pie a grandes expectativas. Y dichas expectactivas fueron cubiertas con creces. Seleccionado como mejor Baleneario/Spa por la revista inglesa Wallpaper* en sus 2009 Awards, las Termas de Tiberio pertenecientes al complejo Panticosa Resort merecen una visita. El proyecto, originalmente promovido por un reconocido constructor nacional, contaba desde el inicio con figuras de primer nivel: Rafael Moneo para la reforma del Gran Hotel y la construcción de otro adyacente, Álvaro Siza para el CAR (Centro de Alto Rendimiento) deportivo y con Belén Moneo (hija de Rafael) para el balneario. Y es sin duda ésta última la construcción más impactante: Las fotos hablan por sí solas.
