On certain occasions, politicians commit errors (or should I put it the other way round?). Lack of prevision, electoral claims or simply chronic disorganisation are things we've all heard of (and suffered). Nevertheless, sometimes, when we think we've seen it all they come up yet with a more striking demonstration of their incapacity to deal with almost anything. Such thing happened last weekend, when arguably Europe's most important dance festival, Sensation White, finally arrived in Madrid. 17000 people dancing, during more than 6 hours to dance anthems and electronic beats of all disciplines all dressed in white: it was bound to be one of the highlights of the end of year in the capital. However this arrival was everything but stylish. Due to fatal events occurred a couple of weeks ago, the Mayor of Madrid decided to shut down several night clubs in the city that did not comply with their licenses: something quite logical if we discount the fact that the Mayor had ignored the night club business for years and had not taken any action towards this build up of shit holes until this kid was killed. So, taking an unparalleled occasion to exert unanimity, the regional government of Madrid (owner of the venue where the event was to be held) suddenly changed the licensed closing hours of the event from seven a.m to three o'clock in the morning.
This meant that yes, we would be kicked out literally in the middle of the night. Eventually, after the initial outrage came resignation, and every single one of the 17,000 ticket holders accepted their fate and entered the venue promptly drunk at dinner time. The result? An outrageous party with a DJ set that yes, could've been much better, but was compensated by far by the show. Few times has Madrid seen such a massive party, but now that the clubbing scene is finally consolidating itself this side of the Pyrenees , the quality of these is going up. Hopefully Sensation will return next year and, in line with the rest of Spain, quality will be top notch and we will be able to enjoy an even better party.
But for now, the focus is on New Year's Eve, that great overpriced night where we all get completely off our trolleys on cheap alcohol. Sensation is having a parallel (time differences to one side) party both at Melbourne and Düsseldorf, and Madrid... well, Madrid has a very special festival held during the 1st day of the year. It doesn't start at midnight, but at midday. Weird timing yes, but that's what it's all about: being different.
Hay ciertas ocasiones en las que los políticos cometen errores (o debería decirlo al revés?). Falta de previsión, electoralismo o simplemente una desorganización crónica son el pan de cada día. Aún así, cuando creemos haberlo visto todo, la política madrileña se saca de la chistera otra demostración aún más escalofriante de su tremenda incompetencia. Algo así ocurrió el fin de semana pasado, cuando el que probablemente es el festival de música dance más importante de Europa, Sensation White, por fin llegaba a Madrid. 17000 personas vestidas de blanco bailando durante más de seis horas a ritmos electrónicos de todos los tipos: uno de los acontecimientos que no podían falta en la agenda de cualquier quemafiestas madrileño. Este aterrizaje tan esperado fue tan impresionante como catástrofico. Resulta que, debido a los tristes eventos de hace dos semanas, al alcalde no se le ocurrió otra cosa que cerrar a diestro y siniestro locales nocturnos por toda la ciudad en situación irregular: algo muy lógico si no se tiene en cuenta el hecho de que al ayuntamiento le importaba un pimiento lo que se hiciera o dejara de hacer en la noche hasta que murió este chico. Y aprovechando que el Pisuerga pasa por Valladolid, la Comunidad de Madrid le quitó la licencia de apertura nocturna al Sensation y solo autorizó el festival hasta las 3 cuando tendría que haber cerrado a las 7 de la mañana.
Efectivamente, nos tiraban a la calle a mitad de la noche. Después del cabreo inicial vino la resignación y todos y cada uno de los 170000 asistentes se armaron de valor y se presentaron en el Palacio de Deportes, puntuales y convenientemente borrachos a la hora de cenar. El resultado? Un fiestón de los que pasan a los anales de la historia. Y eso que el line-up dejaba bastante que desear, el show lo compensó con creces. Pocas veces se han visto fiestas de este calibre a este lado de los Pirineos y esperemos que no sea la última. Y dado que la calidad de las fiestas dance en España está subiendo bastante (aunque a años luz de Holanda) , esperemos que traigan algo mejor.
Pero ahora el objetivo es la Nochevieja, esa gran fiesta de fin de año en la que nos clavan por entrar y ponernos hasta las trancas de garrafón del barato. Sensation la va a liar con una fiesta simultánea (diferencia horaria aparte) en Melbourne y Düsseldorf, mientras que en Madrid... bueno en Madrid tenemos una fiesta
muy especial el primer día del año. Un line-up de infarto para una fiesta que empieza a mediodía en vez de a medianoche. Una fiesta distinta para gente distinta.
